Color Challenge - Day 6

This stamp makes me think of my sisters and the trips we've taken together.  Always a great time, wonderful company, lots of laughs and the imperative "Selfie" of the four of us together - hope they like this one as much as I do!

Nutty Family Mini Album

My wonderful daughter bought me (and herself) everything to make this mini album.  It used the BoBunny "Family is Nuts" collection.  We started it together at a crop and I can't wait to share with her how I finished it up.

Christie - Thanks so very much for the package!  I hope you like what I've done with it.  I will be posting a video to my YouTube channel soon so you can see how I finished off the pages and inserts.

Color Challenge - Day 5

Something a bit different today - I found this image I'd recently colored at my daughter's house.  We were experimenting with adding backgrounds to our images and I did the brick wall behind the boy on the bike.  Not so much on the face and hair technique today, but I love the way the wall looks behind the image, so thought I would share.

Light Up Birthday Card

Here is a picture of the Light Up Birthday Card I made for the Scrapbook Expo card swap -- Written instructions are here in a previous post and the video tutorial is on my YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR2HRNK58_U)

Color Challenge - Day 4

Not too happy with today's effort - was in a hurry so I used an image I had previously stamped - now I know how important it is to use the correct ink (Memento works best for me) and paper made for alcohol markers!  The color bled terribly and blending was inconsistent!  Hope for better results tomorrow!

Color Challenge - Day 2

Day 2 of the Color Challenge - Still trying to improve colors of my facial tones!  They say practice makes perfect, but I'm not asking for perfect - I just don't want the people to look like they have "the pox" - Haha
Instructions for “Make A Wish” – Light Up Card
Designed By
Donna Cline

Materials Used:

For Card:
For Light:
DCWV Chateau Lavender Paper
Yellow LED light
White Cardstock (any brand)
3V Button Battery (watch battery)
Memento Tuxedo Black and Grape Jelly Ink
Floral Wire (I used 26 gauge, because that is what I had on hand)
Gold Winka Stella
Stamps:
Stickles – Ice and Orange Peel
Crafter’s Companion “Make a Wish”
Recollections Sparkle Embossing Powder
Unity WISH Candle
Fiskars “Make a Wish” for Inside Sentiment
1” Clear Acrylic square (to cover hole for light)
Hero Arts Letters for “Make a Wish” lettering
2 pennies for slider
Happy Birthday Stamp (just chose one that would fit across front of card)
Spectrum Noir Markers:

Candle – CR3 and DR1
Ground around cupcake – BGR2, IG1, IG4
Mice and cake part of cupcake – TN2, TN4, TN5 and TN1 for mouse belly
Cupcake Icing – PP1, CR3, CR4
Cherry – CR4 and DR1
Leaf – CT2, CG1, and CG2
Cupcake Liner – PP1, IG1, IG4 and CR3 and CR6 for flowers
Tab Punch
Glue Dots
Strong Tape
Dimensional Tape

1 – Stamp Mice and cupcake (I stamped onto Copic paper and backed with cardstock, but discovered stamping directly onto the cardstock would work fine). After coloring, I applied a thin coat of  Ice Stickles on the cupcake icing to add some sparkle.
2 – After coloring, cut the cupcake away from the mice on the ladder (the cupcake piece will attach to slider and the mice on the ladder will be glued directly to the card front with the match next to the light, so it appears the match lights the candle when slide is moved forward.)
3 – Cut white card stock 11” x 4 ¼”for Card and score at 5 ½”. Or – use a A2 size card.
4 – Cut Pattern Paper 5 ½” x 4 ¼”
5 – Cut white card stock 3 ½” x 4 ¾” for Slider

6 – Prepare pattern paper for slide and light
I prepared a template to make it easier to mark the card fronts.  Below is a picture of my template with all measurements marked.  ( Hole for light is 7/8” from top and 1 ½” from the edge.  Slot hole is ¼” wide,  2/1/4” long and placed with the center of the slide 1 ½” from the bottom, and 1 ¼” from the edge)  NOTE:  These are specific to where I placed the slide and the light for this particular card, and would need to be adjusted if another type of card is made.  This can be accomplished by making a template of plain cardstock and adjusting the cuts until you have achieved proper placement.

7 – Using template, place template as seen above on the back side of the pattern paper piece and cut slider channel; use ¼” hole punch to punch hole for light.

8 – Next, stamp and emboss sentiments on card front, slider, and inside of card.  I used Memento ink instead of an embossing pad (grape jelly ink for inside and black for all others) and Recollections Sparkle embossing powder.  Heat emboss all sentiments and set aside to cool.  .  I used Gold Winka Stella” to color candle flame and then covered it with a thin coat of Orange Peel Stickles to make it shine.

9 – I used 2 pennies and a small piece of dimensional tape (tip from CardMaker Magazine) to construct the slide mechanism (see photo below).

10 – Assemble lighting elements:  To assemble the light, you will need the LED, a battery, some floral wire (I used a 7” piece), some strong tape and some glue dots to secure the light and battery to card.  In the photo I show copper tape, I later discovered any strong tape would work.

-       the longest lead wire on the light must touch the positive side of the battery and the shorter one must touch the negative.  Make sure the wires make good connection to assure the light will come on.   You can extend these wires by attaching floral wire to the leads if necessary.  For this card, I extended the positive side.  See photos below for an example.  Photo is a bit blurry, but the negative side is face up with the short wire attached (I used copper tape because I had it, but later discovered any tape will do as long as the wire is in direct contact with the battery and stays in place)  I twisted 7” piece of floral wire to positive lead (this wire will go through the slider and make contact with the battery when slide is moved forward.

You are now ready to assemble the card --

11 -  Tape 1” square of clear acrylic, to back of pattern paper, over hole for light.  TIP:  I store my clear stamps in old CD cases so I use the acrylic sheets that my clear stamps come packaged on for this.   Another option is to just leave the hole open, since the light will fill it when attached.

12 -  Place card front (patterned paper) face down on table as seen in photo below and attach the light and battery to the card front.  NOTE:  in the photo I used tape to secure the battery, but later discovered that a glue dot would secure it better and make the battery lie flat, just make sure the wire still has contact with the battery.  Secure the light wires with strong tape to ensure they stay in place.

13 -  Glue mice on ladder to the card front with the match next to the light opening.

14 -  Put small piece of dimensional tape in center of one penny.  Ensure the tape will fit in the slider slot without sticking then holding one penny on each side of the slot, stick them together and check to ensure they slide freely back and forth.

15 -  Check placement of  the “cupcake” by moving slide under the light and ensure the candle lines up directly under the lighted match.  Move slider to other end of slot and make sure the “cupcake” placement is at the edge of the card.  Once proper placement is determined, place glue dot in the center of the penny on the card front and secure the “cupcake” to the slider.

16 – Attach tab, cut from pattern paper, to the back edge in the center of the stamped edge of the slider

17 -  Use ¼” hole punch to punch hole in slider ¾” from top and ¾” from the inside edge (non-Tabbed side).

18 -  Feed floral wire that you attached to the positive lead on the light through the hole in the slider from back to front.  I fed about ¾” of wire to the front and secured it with tape after checking to make sure the wire would slide forward and touch the front of the battery when slide was pulled.  For this card, the wire should lie about level with the light on the WISH candle.  See photos below.

Front of Slider (ignore small hole)

Back of Slider (again, ignore small hole)

19 – Test placement of slider and wire by aligning the card front with the slider behind it, hold the slider and card front with thumb and index finger on either side of the penny slider. Slide forward and ensure the light comes on when slide is fully pulled out and candle is directly under the match.

20 – Once assured everything is lined up, place another glue dot on the back penny and secure the slider piece properly.

21 – Use dimensional tape or pop-dots (I used tape and trimmed to fit) to secure assembled card slider to card front on 3 sides (leave tab side open to slide) and make sure slider moves freely and light comes on.

Color Challenge - Day 1

Hi - I have been collecting Spectrum Noir markers for a while now and I have finally completed my collection.  Actually, I have to admit I also have all the Spectrum Noir pencils and their new Aqua markers.  The problem is, I'm really not very good at using them ----  Sooooo, my daughter came up with a "30 Day Challenge" and thought this would give us a good way to improve our skills and share the results -- For week 1, I'm going to focus on people and faces, week 2 on floral, week 3 on animals, and week 4 on landscapes.
